Systems need to have an existing monitoring set up and will need to have access provided to Aloha Solar Care for review. If monitoring is not available, we can assist in setting this up.

Maria K.

Our installer shut down last year, and now no one is answering our calls. Our inverter keeps showing an error, and we don’t know who to contact anymore.

I have spent over a month trying to get my $27,000 PV system repaired. They showed up again today without repairing anything or even a phone call to let me know what is happening. I called their office and the lady I spoke to had no idea about anything, who to call and just told me to wait until next week. Absolutely worst customer service ever. Go elesewhere, they love your money until som hint breaks

The company that installed our panels disappeared right after the warranty expired. We’ve been trying for months to get someone to check why our production suddenly dropped.
Rob Pitt
Rob PittSunnova
There is a reason why there are so many bad reviews for Sunnova. Do yourself a favor and use another company. Sunnova caused extensive damage to our house and has spent the better part 9 months trying to find a way not to address this issue reasonably. They will ignore your emails/phone calls and when they do respond will tell you they are working on a solution. I have had other Sunnova customers contact me with similar stories. My issue is not unique.

We were promised regular maintenance for our solar system, but the business closed and left us hanging. Our electric bill is creeping back up and we don’t know what’s wrong.
Tasha M.

Our panels were installed only two years ago, but the installer went bankrupt. We can’t find any service provider willing to take over their old customers.
Keoni L.

We need help with monitoring and troubleshooting, but the original installer is gone. We were never given proper guidance on how to manage the system.

The company that sold us the system stopped operating on Kauai. We’ve been stuck with issues and have no local support to turn to.

Frequently Ask Questions?

Aloha Solar Care
What Is AlohaSolarCare?

AlohaSolarCare was created for families in Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i who invested in solar energy but were left behind when their original installer closed or walked away. We step in as your trusted partner, making sure your solar system continues to perform the way it was meant to.

With concierge-style support, we connect you with qualified local electrical experts, provide ongoing system monitoring, and give you the peace of mind that someone is always looking out for your investment. Our mission is simple: to keep your solar powering your home, saving you money, and protecting the environment for the long haul.

Even if we weren’t the ones who originally put in your solar, we can still keep an eye on it. Most modern inverters (the device that runs your solar system) come with built-in monitoring. If your system uses one of the supported brands, we can securely connect to it online.

Once connected, we can see how much power your panels are making, spot any issues, and create easy-to-read reports for you. That way, you always know your system’s health, without having to dig into the technical details yourself.

If you do not have monitoring we can assist on installing the monitoring devices that may allow this to be possible.

This all depends on the level of support you desire.  Out 3 tier options provide support based on your needs.  Our dedicated local support team will assist you. They’re here in Hawai‘i and ready to help with any questions or solar concerns you have always with genuine aloha.

Not exactly. Aloha Solar Care isn’t a warranty or insurance program.  We’re your ongoing solar partner. While warranties or insurance cover specific damages or defects, we make sure you’re never left alone or in the dark. Our team helps you maintain, monitor, and care for your solar system so it keeps working efficiently for years to come.

Manufacturer programs usually focus only on systems they installed or specific equipment brands. Aloha Solar Care is different we help any family in Kaua‘i, no matter who installed your system. We provide local support, on-site services, and real people you can talk to. Our goal is to keep your system healthy and your home powered even if your original installer is no longer around.

Continuous monitoring tracks your solar system 24/7 through an app provided the installer set this up when the system was first installed. It helps us spot issues early like drops in production or connection errors so we can take action right away.

A yearly/monthly performance report gives you an easy-to-read summary of how your system performed for the year or month, including energy generated, usage, and any alerts. It’s your big-picture view, while continuous monitoring works quietly in the background every day.

That’s a fair question. You’ll start seeing results as soon as we have connection to your online monitoring — if your inverter brand is supported, like Enphase, SMA, or SolarEdge. Once connected, we will provide performance data, yearly/monthly reports, and help set up alerts for any issues. This helps you see exactly how your system is performing and gives you confidence that your investment is being cared for.  There are 3 tiers to choose from for the level of assistance based on your needs.

We understand that trust matters, especially after what many families went through with their installers. If Aloha Solar Care ever stops operating, you’ll still keep access to your inverter’s original app or monitoring system (like Enphase, SMA, or SolarEdge). All your data remains yours — we don’t lock you out. Our goal is to make sure you’re never left alone or in the dark again, no matter what happens.

What happens if I move to a new home or decide to sell my property?

If you move or sell your home, your Aloha Solar Care plan can be easily transferred to the new owner — so they can continue receiving monitoring and maintenance support. This adds value to your property, since buyers know the system is being professionally cared for. If you’re moving to a new home with solar, we can help you set up a new plan there too.

Aloha Solar Care is currently available throughout Hawai‘i. We’re focused on helping local families here who invested in solar power and need reliable ongoing support.

Check your monitoring app or inverter screen. You should see daily production that increases during sunlight hours. If data hasn’t updated in over 24 hours or your inverter shows a red light, there may be a communication or inverter issue.

A red or flashing inverter light usually indicates a fault. Take a photo of the inverter display and note any error codes. You can safely try rebooting your inverter only if the manufacturer allows it. Otherwise, contact Aloha Solar Care support.

Common reasons include dirty panels, new shading (trees, buildings), inverter faults, or cloudy weather. Start by requesting Aloha Solar Care to clean the panels.   If its safe, check your monitoring app, and make sure there are no red lights on your inverter.  Check out Teirs 2 & 3 of our subcription service for discounts.

Because of the extremely corrosive salt air and tropical dust, panels should be cleaned at least two times per year — more often if you’re close to the coast or under trees.

Aloha Solar Care does not recommend this.  Any work on roofs or near electrical equipment should be handled by licensed and insured professionals.  Make sure to avoid high-pressure hoses or detergents. Never allow anyone to step directly on the panels or climb on wet roofs.

Your Wi-Fi or data connection may have dropped. Restart your router, check the inverter or communication gateway lights, and make sure it’s connected. If it remains offline, SolarCare can remotely check your connection.

Standard grid-tied systems automatically shut down for safety during power outages. If you have battery backup, your critical loads can continue running. Ask Aloha Solar Care to confirm your backup configuration.

No — systems are designed to handle rain and wind. However, if there’s a hurricane warning and possible roof damage risk, you can power down using your AC/DC isolators if your manual instructs it. Contact Aloha Solar Care if you’re unsure.

I live near the ocean — do I need special maintenance?

Yes. Salt buildup can reduce output and corrode components. Professionally clean panels more often and have professional inspections every 2–3 years to check for corrosion.

Yes. Fine ash and volcanic haze can block sunlight and scratch glass if not professionally cleaned. Wait until air quality improves, then ghave the panels cleaned using a reverse osmosis deionization (RODI) system.

Take photos from a safe distance and contact Aloha Solar Care immediately. Do not climb onto the roof. Strong winds may have loosened mounts or flashing.

Palm fronds can cast shade and drop debris. Trim branches regularly and ensure trees are at least 10–15 ft away from the array.

Over time, yes. Keep the inverter enclosure clean and rinse off dust/salt with a damp cloth. Never spray directly with water. Schedule periodic checks.

My inverter screen is blank — what should I check?

Check your breaker panel to see if any solar-related breaker has tripped. Ensure the inverter is getting power. If all breakers are on and still blank, call Aloha Solar Care.

This could be grid voltage fluctuation or overheating. Ensure the inverter is not exposed to direct sunlight all day. If it persists, Aloha Solar Care may be able log diagnostic data remotely.

Check your app for the battery’s state of charge and recent usage. Make sure no error messages are displayed. Don’t open the battery cabinet — contact Aloha Solar Care for support.

Check your usage history. If your nighttime loads increased (AC, appliances), your battery may be undersized. Aloha Solar Care can assess your usage patterns and can assist in adjusting online settings.

What should I do after a storm?

Inspect from the ground for debris, cracked glass, or fallen panels. Do not climb or touch panels. Document any visible damage with photos and contact Aloha Solar Care and your insurance provider.

This should be handled only by a professional.  This will ensure all warranties and insurance claims are not voided or effected.  This will need to be done to remove mud or salt deposits.

Most homeowner insurance policies cover roof-mounted solar under the dwelling section. Confirm with your provider. Take photos before and after major storms for documentation.

Why is my electricity bill still high even with solar?

Possible reasons: high nighttime usage, smaller system size, cloudy days, or net metering changes. Compare your production to your consumption in the app.

Your monitoring app or smart meter should show “export” values. KIUC customers can log in to their utility portal to view export credits.

This may be due to seasonal sunlight variation or recent rate adjustments from KIUC. Review your app history over 12 months to confirm trends.

How often should my system be inspected?

A professional check every 1–2 years is recommended. DEpending on the extent of the inspection, this could include tightening of connections and testing voltage outputs.  Based on requests, Aloha Solar Care provides a 20 point inspection program to determine quality and performance.

No, as long as it’s just cleaning the panels. Always stay off the roof and try to avoid cleaning in the middle of the day when panels are extremely hot.

More and more families are finding it extremely challenging to find someone to come out and help them with their solar systems.  It takes countless calls and days waiting for a call back. If they do call back, it’s been reported that inspections and repair work are in the thousands of dollars.  This is the benefit of subscribing to Aloha Solar Care.  One single place to reach out to with reasonable and affordable relationships with electricians and professionals for cleaning, inspections, and repairs.

Clean panels regularly, check inverter status monthly, ensure proper ventilation, and schedule professional maintenance. Avoid tampering with electrical parts.

Can AlohaSolarCare cancel my Subscription?

We may cancel coverage in cases of fraud, non-payment, or material misrepresentation. However, we work with homeowners first to resolve any concerns before issuing cancellations.
